Luxuriously Lanvin

"We wanted to bring together classic pieces with modernity. When you think of classic pieces you think of boring and traditional fashion, while you associate modern clothes harsh and cool. We try and achieve tension between the two - and where there's tension there's energy and that's what fashion is all about." - Lanvin's menswear designer Lucas Ossendrijver on the collection's theme.

One may ponder how Lanvin has managed to thrive for decades as being an incomparably defining veteran in French couture, but Sunday's menswear show in Paris easily answers any remotely daunting questions of fashion survival. With wool overcoats featuring hidden magnetic closures and wide trousers topped with slim tailoring, Lucas Ossendrijver's fall 2011 menswear collection cast a luxurious blanket of awe and beauty over spectators in Paris and fashion-lovers worldwide.

Galliano's Nod to Nureyev

"The idea of hope, discipline, dreams - the way he fled Russia" - John Galliano

As clever as he is with a rather magical ability to transform fabric into a vivid and wonderful story, John Galliano has once again dazzled the fashion industry with his ode to the late ballet dancer, Rudolf Nureyev. The couturier's Fall 2011 menswear collection whimsically chronicled the years of the Russian dancer featuring models walking a dark runway depicting several segments of the ballerino's adventurous life. In what could be viewed as a nod to Nureyev's brave defection from the Soviet Union in 1961, the presentation began with snow falling over models sporting chunky coats and massive boots necessary to battle the harsh and quite unforgiving Russian winters. Segueing into a more sleek and tailored theme, referencing Nureyev's dancing and party lifestyle, Galliano's collection progressed with classic double-breasted overcoats in both fur and wool to beautifully colored silk scarves wrapped around models donning classic suits and shirts. Ending with a typically roaring applause, Galliano graced the catwalk after what may be easily referred to as his best menswear collection yet. As always, well done, monsieur :).

James Bond Infiltrates Jean Paul Gaultier

Bond....James Bond

Espionage has never looked this good. Incomparable French couture designer Jean Paul Gaultier gifted Paris Men's Fashion Week with a brilliant and daring homage to the one and only James Bond. Drawing inspiration from the renowned fictional English spy, Gaultier has designed this year's fall menswear collection with a sleek theme that only one symbolic MI6 agent can achieve. From models carting guns on the runway to red corsages and tuxedo-styled suits, Gaultier's inspirations were unmistakably conveyed by only one name: Bond...James Bond.

Gucci's Viable Vanity

Milan's Menswear Fashion Week kicks off with a taste of Gucci's brilliant homage to today's vanity-obsessed metropolitan male. With the pompous gentleman as her timeless muse, Gucci's Frida Giannini simply states, "he's elegant, sophisticated, and proud". For the fall 2011 collection, the creative director's inspirations drew influence from past rock legends of the 80's and 90's. “I was thinking of iconic, stylish men like Rod Stewart and Mick Jagger, but I didn’t want to be referential or nostalgic. I wanted a new story" she said. From the beautiful saturation of tender neutrals and soft pinks to deep blacks and rich blues, Gucci's fall collection emotes anything but a deadly sin.
